Analysis:
After reading several of Edar Allan Poe's short stories such as "The Tell Tale Heart" or "The Black Cat", I have reached several conclusions in reference to his style and vision of things, in general.
His stories, though disturbing, in my oppinion try to reflect the way he sees Karma and justice in the world because the wrongdoers always end up being punished or caught. Also, he shows us that even though he beleives in perverseness and that people will do things just because they know they are wrong, he also believes that everyone has some good in them, even if it is only a tiny and subconscious goodness. This, we are shown because the main characters either feel some guilt or end up confessing their crimes. They all subconsciously feel that they have to be punished; either by imagining things, by luring people- without realizing what they are doing- into discovering their crimes, etc. And in the end, they all are.
These stories are all obviously horror stories, which help the reader see things in the way some mad people see them. The reader is shown, by the use of the first person, the distorted and confused way of reasoning- or not reasoning- of mentally ill people, who talk directly to the reader and are very ironical, contradicting and sarcastic.
