Before anything, I'd like to say that even though this blog is written in English, I recommend you to do as I did and read the books I criticise in their original language (if you can). This way you'll like them much more and you'll find astute word games and double meanings which will help you read the book in all of its potential.

Think of a Number - John Verdon

Criticism:

This book is very interesting and gripping, mostly in the end; even though the start was, for me, a bit dense and slow. It is greatly planned and written in a very intelligent way and, although it can be very predictable, it has another face which is completely unpredictable. It is unexpected, intense and interesting up to the end, which is very quick.
This book is very difficult to comment, because it is very diverse. Depending on the reader, it can seem spectacular or horrible. It can grip or bore; but it isn't very surprising. It doesn't create an impact. Furthermore, for me it was very annoying while I read it, because the reader feels very impotent. I wished for the main character to do certain things and take certain actions and decisions to advance quickly in the story and take away the tension, but I couldn't make him do those things and therefore the story continued too slowly for my taste; and that put me very nervous. Also, to read this book is the same as seeing a film of the genre- it had a lot of investigation, tension and investigative mystery; but that prevented the book from being a great literary piece and instead made it a typical bestseller, and a book to pass the time, which is enjoyable but which doesn't say anything specific to the reader like any classical book. There is no message between its pages, but it is extremely entertaining and it maintains the reader's eyes stuck to its pages up to the end.
