Pellinor- Alison Croggon

      Criticism:

Pellinor is a series of four books: The Gift, The Riddle, The Crow and The Singing, which are very similar to The Lord of the Rings but much lighter and less dense, and with a more feminine focus. Therefore, I especially recommend reading them to any girl between 12 and 20 years old who liked The Name of the Wind and at the same time the Twilight series.

Criticism:

This book, it's title based in a  proverb which says: "Si te digo que la burra es negra es porque tengo los pelos en la mano", is a recollection of very short stories which are very different from each other, but which all possess great feeling. There are all types of stories, as each one is written by a different author: humour, philosophical, romantic, tragedy, abstract... and each one is written in a completely different and surprising way, but at the same time completely artistic and deeply literary. In them, literary experience can be easily sensed, as the great work that has been put into them. This is why the message of some of them is deep but not obvious, and they let the reader think about what they say.

Narcosis- Sam Edwards

Criticism:

This book is very interesting and mostly realistic, that clearly shows us the way in which the author sees the world. Very well written, it is a quick read and the argument is original and interesting, making one think about the corruption in our world. Even so, I must say that the introduction to the action is too large, and although interesting, it gives the impression of trying to create space. In the other hand, the action is very quick and grippy; and very comfortable to read. The end is also a very easy read, and I couldn't stop reading until I finished it, but the moralising intention is, for me, a bit too obvious and I think that if it were a bit more hidden it would be more effective and the reader would be able to make whatever they like out of it.
The book doesn't have a specific genre: it has a bit of action, romance, and it is sometimes quite hard. It is nothing too intense, but it reflects the indifference of today's society which I think is very well achieved.

Bradley Nickell and Neal James

These are two newly discovered short-story writers which I think would proove very interesting to try out. They write mystery and crime stories, and will surely soon get to the top. I haven't tried them out yet, but in my opinion they will be worthwile and will surely make an interesting change, which my guess is that Edgar Allan Poe's readers will enjoy a lot.

Life on the Refrigerator Door - Alice Kuipers

Criticism:

This book is, definitely, one of the saddest, most delicate and touching book I've ever read. From my point of view, it even overshadows the famous Boy In The Stripped Pyjamas; which most people know for its sadness. The way Life on the Refrigerator Door is written is very original, and it is perfect for lazy and enthusiastic readers because it is really short but at the same time it has a surprising intensity. I guess that this book is written for girls rather than boys but I recommend it to everyone, due to the fact that it shows an angle to life that people don't consider many times. It doesn't contain action but it grabs the reader a lot; and even the slowest readers who like to linger in each page can read it in less than two hours. It is a book advisable for people who liked Fearless, written by Tim Lott, and if you like one I advise you to read the other. It is very well written and, although the ending is rather predictable, it remains as exciting and moving as if it surprised the reader- or even more.
